Apparently Intel is crowing that the "Itanium 2" is 50% faster than SPARC? Given that (1) I bet they selected the comparison that looked the best for them; (2) they're comparing a "to be available real soon now" device with a deployed chip; (3) they haven't announced pricing as far as I know; and (4) raw speed is only one factor of many in selecting a system -- the Itanium 2 doesn't seem like a very formidable competitor.

JMHO.

Dear Charles: Damned if I know.
The oilfield services and construction firm, whose chief executive from 1995 to 2000 was Vice President Dick Cheney, said regulators were investigating its practice of booking cost overruns as revenues.

But if he did, that is the CRAZIEST method I have ever heard of. I am GUESSING they had some kind of provision for being reimbursed for cost overruns which is the only justification there would be. JDN
