ST Assembly Test on Track to Meet Sales Forecast, CEO Says
By Greg Chang

Singapore, May 30 (Bloomberg) -- ST Assembly Test Services Ltd., Singapore's biggest tester of semiconductors, said it's on track to meet its forecast for second-quarter sales to increase 10 percent to 15 percent from the first quarter.

``The positive market trends we discussed appear to be continuing,'' Chief Executive Officer Harry Davoody said in an interview after the Singapore-based company's annual meeting.

Demand for semiconductors has been rising after the industry's worst year in 2001, benefiting subcontractors such as ST Assembly which provide services to chip companies. There is still the risk that demand could slow again, depending on economies around the world, Davoody said.

``I can't say 100 percent whether it's a sustained recovery or a bubble,'' he said.

Strong demand from customers who make chips for high-speed modems and digital consumer products such as DVD players indicates demand will continue to rise, though it is unclear at what pace, Davoody said.
