Worldwide semiconductor sales rose 3.1 pct in April to 11.07 bln usd from 10.73 bln in March, according to figures released by the Semiconductor Industry Association.

SIA president George Scalise said the modest growth being experienced in the first half of the year is expected to continue throughout the remainder of 2002, adding that April's growth was led by an increase in sales in the wireless sector.

"Semiconductor sales in April are continuing the steady growth exhibited in the first quarter of this year, another sign that the industry is rebounding from 2001," the SIA said.

All four geographic regions reported growth in April for the second month in a row, with the Americas up 0.2 pct to 2.62 bln usd, Europe up 1.1 pct to 2.28 bln usd, Japan up 4.4 pct to 2.20 bln and Asia Pacific up 5.7 pct to 3.97 bln, the SIA said.
