rkral - If the framing isn't right, all is lost.

My point is to think about how the framing is made 'right'. The handset and the BS must have framing that is the same but the only way for them to do that is through the air link. Even if both the basestation and handset have perfect clocks, they still need to be snychronized somehow. Imagine that the handset was sending 1 bit per second on a 1 hz bandwidth. When the handset is first turned on it must somehow say 'this is the start of the frame', but it is only going to do this at an accuracy on the order of 1 second - which has a distance correlate of 3E8 meters.
