perusing GRC.com discussion site, i came across this comment and response:

Comment: The fact that AVG don't spend advertising revenue with PC Mag doesn't factor at all of course :) That *is* a valid concern.

Response: Except they also mention Steve's software and Steve doesn't do any advertising.
