I think that user responses are interesting to read...most users seem to like the program....the anandtech forum includes negative remarks. One user said that AVG missed a virus on a friends computer that Norton found.

Users also posted remarks that disagreed with the PC magazine article at pcmags own site.

I'm sure that there are AVG users reading this thread....so the more information about the program the better. Pro and con.

I'm comfortable using it. It seems to be doing the job. I haven't had any problems with it and I've had it running on a W98 computer for about 8 months and with XP for a couple. As Robert Graham said...be careful (if you care) about what software you add to your machine. I am always reluctant to try new software when my computer is on cruise control and running smoothly. Too many instances of bugs , conflicts and then...system instability. I avoid putting anything on a machine that has important files, programs or serves a critical need such as the pc that I use for trading. No games or other non-essentials.

The programs that I have on my serious machine include Zone Alarm, Grisoft's AVG and Ad-aware. I'm happy with them.

If people are skeptical about anti-virus programs or just don't want to spend the money, AVG is a decent alternative. Easy to set up..easy to use...free...not perfect.

I know quite a few people who use it....when someone tells me that their pc is messed up because AVG missed a virus or caused some kind of system instability, I'll promptly report it to the CL thread...so far I haven't personally heard one complaint.
