And if the money were there?
Mirror bit gives AMD a substantial competitive advantage for the medium term.

-- IF and when it finally arrives, it will finally bring AMD's technology up to match intel's StrataFlash, which has been shipping for several years, and has just announced Stacking Technology which will increase density, and will again pull intel ahead of AMD.

Hammer looks to give AMD another competitive advantage over Intel.

-- IF and when ClawHammer finally arrives, intel will be several generations along on P4 and XEON, both Proven Technologies on proven Vendor Platforms. In the Server Area, every major vendor except SUN has committed to IA-64, which will be on it's Third Generation Madison by the time AMD gets it's "First Generation, Whitebox Platform" off the launchpad.

Intel has nothing but money, it's been running on nothing but momentum for 3 years. Being able to heavily outspend AMD has kept Intel going, but Intel has now burned up about half of its reserves, while AMD is financially as strong as it ever was.
AMD is already part way through the conversion to SOI - Intel will have to spend money like water to catch up, just as it did with copper.
And, this time, the money may not be there

-- Baby....... You better get your head out of the sand and look around. Believe me..... Not only is the Money there, the Technology is there, and the most important piece missing last time...... The Manufacturing is there.

I'm sorry to tell you, but those hoping for a repeat of the CuMine Disaster, are going to be very disappointed. Intel is awake now. Thank You Very Much.........AMD

:-)

Dan3,

Re: "And if the money were there?"

But Dan3, the MONEY ISN'T THERE !! AMD will have to hand their process development
future over to UMC. Sorry ... Not good,IMHO.
