" Lee got his ass whipped at Gettysburg because he continued to fight in the "honorable" way of mounting charges against massed guns and artillery that were at least partially protected. Many of those guns were the increased range and more accurate rifles which were replacing muskets... One would think that after one day of heavy losses he would have learned. Gettysburg is reported to have been the last battle in the Civil War of such charges.
