Cat: Everybody is wearing their best "brave face" but the economic and political picture is not pretty and it is surprising how far we could go down from here if foreign selling continues -- it could be a very rough ride if we pick up speed to the downside due to war or terrorism. But just the economics alone are enough to make you wonder why you own any stocks at all. The current account deficit is finally weighing in as a dominant economic issue -- and that is why there is so much pressure on the dollar whose sliding value has triggered the bounce in gold. For many observers, myself included, the question was always when this would happen rather than if it would happen.
