Do you seriously take the position that there's nothing deficient in Bush's language skills, for example? That he is no less knowledgeable and bright than other presidents have been?

I take the position that he is no less knowledgeable or bright then many other presidents have been. I don't think he is one of the brightest ever buy I don't see any solid evidence that would suggest he is one of the stupidest presidents either.

I do think that he does occasionally have problems with mangling a word or two.

Tim

I have spoken with several people who know Bush personally, and have worked with him, one quite closely..

Their universal sense is that he is perfectly intelligent, just not glib. Some people have the ability to speak off-the-cuff and sound good, others don't. It's just an attribute, like being good at music, or art, or acting. Nothing to do with intelligence.

Some of the smartest people don't have that skill, and indeed generally lack people skills. They sometimes come across to the uninitiated as being rather dull.

Adlai Stevenson, as one example, was very smart, but gave quite a contrary appearance to most of the public.

I think he is bright, knowledgeable about business and politics, articulate in a folksy way, sometimes gets tongue tied when tired or unaccustomed to the word or phrase used, and has good judgment. Compared to other presidents, I would say that he is about as bright as Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Ford. I think that Nixon, Carter, Reagan, his father, and Clinton were brighter. However, only Reagan was superior in judgment. I think that those who suppose him to be a dumb bunny are fools......

His speech after 9/11 to both houses will go down in history. Didn't look bad in the debates either.

I saw him on ESPN back in about '97, before he had been mentioned as a candidate. He was running a bass boat and pitching a spinner bait while they were asking him questions about pollution and things in general. At the time I thought he should be president.

An election is not an IQ test. We are not electing simply intellect. Words like "judgement" and "moral character" come to mind.

According to a recent article, Clinton was the smartest recent President. Well, gee, maybe he wasn't too bad. If ignore scandal after scandal culminating in impeachment. How likely do you think it is that Bush will be impeached? Or have even one sexual scandal during his tenure?

Carter is supposed to have been quite bright. Yet in the Iran mess, he committed blunder after blunder.

Kennedy is also supposed to have been quite bright. And yet he ordered the unpardonable stupidity of cancelling the air cover for the Cuban invasion. The answer to that would be obvious to a first-year cadet at any of the military academies: either you provide air cover or you cancel the invasion. He also helped significantly in digging the hole called Vietnam.

Nixon..... Need more be said?
