MF's a good man. One interesting thing he said at an event honoring Greenspan, to paraphrase, "the Fed should be replaced with a computer, but the next best thing is Alan Greenspan". Pretty amusing, especially since AG was sitting at the dias.

I don't know economics like these fellows, but it's always seemed that Greenspan has done a better job than his predecessors, with the one glaring exception of attempting to change only interest rates during the bubble, instead of first raising margin requirements to reduce speculation first.

I personally met w. MF at his home in Sea Ranch on the California coast, once. My mission was to get him to speak at a Perot event. He turned me down, but was gracious about it. "Do you realize I'm 84 years old! I can't keep running around, you know". I hope I'm that vigorous at that age.
