Nosotros DamnUs-

this younger generation has red and purple hair, posts in their noses, their eyebrows, their lips
they barely speak the English language
they love Black Rap and White Rap music
they hardly ever read
they dont know math at all
they dont speak foreign languages
the trend is toward ignorance here
public schools work toward advancing students, not educating them
we will depend upon them to finance our SS pensions?

oh no.

i sure picked a bad day to try to give up sniffing glue.

I like to throw a additional variable into the economic dissection here. The red China factor.

In the past 2 decades, the trade imbalance has slowly shfited from Japan to China. Today, even Japanese branded products are made in China. Japan has always feel obligated to complement its policies to the policies coming out of Washington DC and Federal Reserve.

But the PLA (People Liberation Army) is entirely different from Japan. It always considers the US its main adversary. To the degree it must cooperate with US and federal reserve to promote the free exchange of cheap goods for US technology to be redeployed into arming the PLA, it will do what it must to hold up the dollar to facilitate the bilateral trades.

As PLA becomes more technilogically sophisticated, it is seeing itself less and less depended on US technology, and less inclined to suit US. It now wants real money for its cheap products that US are totally dependent on for everyday living. The Chinese has always treasure Gold for centuries and centuries as real store of value.

Not all of them, at least at my house, they are listening to Jazz and Classical, playing chess and go in my basement. Scary sort of down there. LOL. Really, I think you are over doing in re: the younger generation. They will be fine.

Then why is it so difficult for this particular generation to get into college? They have to have a 4.0 gpa, hold an office, belong to several clubs, excel in sports and volunteer in order to qualify. All colleges have long long waiting lists. The schools are crowded. Most kids know more about computers than their parents. Companies would rather hire a kid just out of college (not just because their cheaper - but it helps) because of the better skill set they have. I don't think we need to worry about them. There's more kids doing the right thing than the ones you describe.
