Coin dealers just loved the Y2K hoax, it gave them the chance to get rid of all the dusty bags of junk silver in the vaults by selling them as a 50% premium to melt to unsuspecting victims (er, I mean customers)

Maybe, if they were public companies. Refiners, dealers, brokers, etc.. all manage to get their cut regardless of the price of the commodity.
