You're right, there is no scheduler for defrag other than third pary utilities. Are you putting in an administrator or backup operator account with password during setup of scheduled backups? You can create mandatory profiles(after clearing out the garbage) by renaming ntuser.dat to ntuser.man.

1) In NTPS file mode you need to defrag more frequently.

Geeze, I always thought the big selling point for NTFS, aside from security, was that it didn't get fragmented. I guess its just another Redmond lie.
