AUSTIN, TX, Jun 05, 2002 (AFX-UK via COMTEX) -- Dell Computer Corp said it raised its share buyback programme by 250 mln shares to a total of 1.25 bln shares, adding it has repurchased over 950 mln of its own shares at an average price of under 11.0 usd since 1996.
Over the past two quarters, Dell has bought back an average of over 15 mln shares and anticipates it will repurchase about the same amount in the current quarter.

The buybacks will mainly be used to offset stock-based employee compensation plans, it said.

During the past six years, the buybacks have boosted Dell's earnings per share by reducing its number of average shares outstanding by 16 pct.
