I guess the government probably has some creative accounting to keep the inflation in housing price in check.

In Silicon Valley this is the first time we have declining rents (and I mean REALLY declining) vs. rising house prices. I wonder if thats the case elsewhere in the country. In the event of declining rents vs. rising home values, I would say the real cost of living is actually declining.
