I have never met one who wasn't him- or her-self psychologically damaged.

Well, try to exercise your imagination. A depression strikes, say. Or something untoward happens to your income. You need work. You are the same person in all respects you are today, except that you haven't had those bad experiences with social workers.

Your community hires you to monitor the well being of the precious children on the islands in your area who are in foster care, and, loving children, you take the responsibility seriously.

You go to a foster Dad's apartment, arrive early, and find the 9 year old boy and 12 year old girl watching sadist pornography, with foster Dad in the room.
