Unless you've lived it, on both the up and downside, it is hard to explain.

I think that living it also might make it understandably harder to be objective. If you're telling me that the only way the smaller Silicon Valley public companies can succeed is by issuing employee stock options and not expensing them, then there's a lot less good going on in Silicon Valley than I'd like to believe. If that's not what you're saying, I missed your entire point.

You'll see a lot more stodgy big companies that don't have to worry about little up-and-comers, and more Microsoft monopolies.
