I was 15 or 16 (assuming it came out in 71 or 2) when that song was being played a lot. That may explain why we ALL got it. <g>

Afternoon Delight was one of those songs that made me cringe, so I never listened past the opening bars.

How common was it to think it was about sex? Did others you talked to share this interpretation?

My daughter told me last night that that song is on our Disney car tape sing along tape.
I had no idea it was so questionable, or actually, that it was there. I am shocked, shocked I tell you.

I'm wondering what other sexual menaces may be lurking on my sing along songs tape.

When that song came out, I thought it insipid as well. I also remember kids talking about the double-meaning.

I'm reminded of the people who claim "Puff the Magic Dragon" was about drugs. At the time I had no clue about that. I just thought it was a nice children's song.

I was into a combination of classical and folk music then, and hardly listened to any pop music at all. When I was in college I didn't have either a radio or a stereo (or a TV) in my room, and after I got out I don't think I even owned a radio until the 1980s, and I bought my first TV when I moved to NYC, which was when I was 33. Up 'till then I never owned one. I just never was into contemporary culture, so I missed a lot of the references everybody is supposed to have known all about.
