Taiwan's Nanya Technology, Dell Form 5-Yr Strategic Alliance

TAIPEI, June 11 Asia Pulse - Taiwan's Nanya Technology Corporation and Dell Computer Corporation signed a five-year strategic alliance agreement Monday estimated to be worth US$3 billion.
Based on the agreement, Nanya will have to provide DRAM and printed circuit boards used in servers, desktops and notebooks for Dell's production lines worldwide.

Also under the agreement, both sides are planning to widen their cooperation in research and development.

Nanya Technology Corporation, the high-tech arm of Taiwan's giant corporation Formosa Plastic Group, entered the semiconductor manufacturing industry and has been producing DRAM and printed circuit boards since 1996.

According to statistics released by Nanya, its revenues reached NT$11.74 billion (US$345 million) in 2001 when most semiconductor manufacturers were facing a downturn due to the economic recession.

The formation of the strategic alliance can be seen as confirmation of the quality of Nanya's products, Nanya's spokesperson Charles Kau said.

He said that Nanya will spend more time on developing new products and strengthen its after-sale service by establishing a complete logistic system.
