Careless humans?

The cause of the blazes remains unknown, but a witness reported seeing a man starting an illegal campfire before the flames broke out.

Two small suspicious fires that started within a mile of each other off U.S. Highway 285 have investigators worried about the possibility of an arsonist.

Arson?

I lived in Colo for 6 years.

To be honest I'm more concerned about Jose Padilla and his ilk.

Some fires are easier to extinguish than others.

COLORADO ON FIRE

Kenneth,

Re: The State of Colorado is on fire. Why is Colorado having the worst fires in its history at this time?

thedenverchannel.com

Last night, I PMed an SI buddy who lives in Glenwood Springs. His description of standing on the golf course under a sprikler in order to photo document the scene was surreal. He says that there is zero snow pack now, while in normal years they're just in the peak of spring runoff. The drought is severe. Just how severe?

In the spring of 1991, I kayaked Cataract Canyon on the Colorado River in Utah. We had 65,000 Cubic Feet per Second flows. This year, the flow is about 6,000 CFS. This is a severe drought year. Colorado and surrounding states are all tinder dry and have massive fuel loads due to eight decades of mis-guided fire suppression policies. All hell is going to break loose this year.

Here's a link for the flows:

Under UTAH RIVERS: Combine the Green River near Jensen and Colorado near Cisco for the total comparable. Currently 5,900 CFS

I don't know what you Northwesterners call it but here in Colorado it is called a drought.

Just between you and me, I heard the Bush administration is behind it because nobody cares if you dig for oil in a burnt out forest... Alaska's next!!!
