TSMC likely to ssite chip plant in Shanghai

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd is likely to
site its planned mainland 8-inch wafer plant in the Sungjiang industrial zone of
Shanghai, the Economic Daily News reported, citing chairman Morris Chang.

Among other sites under assessment are Suzhou, Nanjing and Wuxi, the
newspaper said, citing other unnamed TSMC officials.

Construction work on the plant is scheduled to begin in the second half of
next year, with output based on 0.25 micron technology and monthly capacity set
at 40,000 wafers, the newspaper added.
