Except for Mad. I highly recommend Mad magazine.

It sounds like life is too good for you. Thus you are unable to empathize with the angst of the rest of us. (not really).

Make sure you see Monster's Ball Coug. I think it is about everything you would think is important. It is a truly humane film.

I find I read only about one article in every three or four issues. They had a wonderful article on the forthcoming third editing of the Arden Shakespeare, and an interview with Harold Jenkins, now dead, who edited the up-to-now definitive second edition.

There's supposed to be a major expose of the NYT in this week's issue, but haven't gotten to it yet (I'm down the line on the family distribution list).

I haven't noticed the factors you mention, but then I barely notice the covers.
