Your "guess" sounds right. They can afford to run lines to large office buildings and such to offer phone service along with data, but reaching all the small businesses out there in small office parks, strip centers, etc. over their own lines would be prohibitively expensive just as it would be for residential. So, the answer to your question is that the new customers they're going after would be the millions of small/mid-sized businesses who are not in large, dense buildings/complexes.

I suspect this is WCOM's "attack plan" across the continent, without regard for it being residential or business. Uhhhh....pricing plans and local footprint excluded of course (heh). I also suspect they can profit as long as their price "X" remains above their ILEC wholesale price "Y," which must really be aggravating the ILEC's (pssst...expect the ILEC's to continue to press congressional buttons in an attempt to rectify the situation).

Bottom line? I think, in light of all that's now known, WCOM's ~$1.60 price reflects a woefully oversold situation. Place your bets accordingly....
