I was an altar boy. Fortunately I got out in time. However I do hold a great respect for the Jesuit teachers I had. They were very open minded and always had a thirst for learning. I used to argue with them for hours about every topic and they never tired of debating or tried to silence me. From translating Latin to History they threw the universe at me and said sort it out. They were far more open and tolerant than any of the public school teachers today and exposed me to many non Catholic ideas and philosophy. Of course they always presented their side to the issues but the whole presentation was balanced and excellent.
