I hated CSCO at 80 something. I loved it at 12. This is a company that owns its market, takes market share from its competitors, has huge amounts of cash, has margins that are improving, etc. Take a look at its chart. It has a nice bottoming pattern in place.

A lot of things have changed since the 1970s and your right about P/Es. However, it is one way to estimate a company's market price. By the way, I was never a broker.

I like issues and volume on the NYSE. Take the ARMs apart and play with the components. Measure trends. I ignore the Nasdaq because I always viewed it as a secondary market.
