Actually, the failure of 3dfx had to do with mis-management.. The loyal gamers had to abandon ship (very reluctantly.

I recall it very well because TDFX was a nightmare for me.. Lost a TON of cash on that POS : )

Nvidia was the underdog, but they had just gone public and had alot of cash and alot of aggressive under paid talent looking for a piece of the TDFX pie.. TDFX was launching the next generation cards, and they ran into huge problems and released the cards some 6 months late. Huge mistake with gamers (missing deadlines). They also had a TON of inventory they were hoping to integrate into a new 2d/3d solution to make gains in the OEM market but management couldnt execute, and they were stuck sitting on a pile of worthless product..

All of this was happening while Nvidia was executing flawlessly.. They released product 4 months ahead of schedule, and filled shelve space that was supposed to be filled with 3dfx cards that kept getting delayed.. The rest is history : )

Incidently- why is it that all I see are 'LMAO' and 'LOL' when people respond and offer conflicting views? Man.. It makes a person not even want to offer an opinion... Although I dont claim to know it all, I certainly think some of what IM saying holds some 'weight' and could offer some perspective... Just seems sorta insulting..

Visit the Lucent thread.. Sylvestor has called me everything from stupid, ignorant, irrelevant because when Lucent was at around $10-15, I posted my views that conflicted with his.. I guess IM too sensitive : )
