The economy is toast. It will not recover any vigor, but remain anemic, until confidence in Washington is restored. No one has gone to jail for Enron, and the thieves have not even been asked to disgorge profits. Corruption appears to be rampant all the way to the top. As Republicans trashed Democrats for the economy and anything and everything, likewise the Democrats will point to the economy, terrorism, Wall Street cronyism, Enron, CIA/FBI misdeeds and anything else the Republicans are presiding over, and say, "do you like what you see?". It's up to the voters to sort it out and decide who is responsible for what, and why.
