gilder seems incapabled of grasping that technology isn't nearly as important as the people who make it and use it. to think that putting in a fibre drop can compensate for the extraordinary disparities between good and "bad" schools is, frankly, ludicrous.

access to better books means little if the teacher doesn't understand the books and the students aren't in an environment that encourages them to go get the books. there is no substitute for personal contact.

maybe i'm just getting old, but i have ever-decreasing patience for the Technology Is Our Savior crowd. IMO they are just replacing a personal god with an impersonal god.

IH, George Gilder is one of the most successful ever at stealing others people's money by having them listen to the ravings of a lunatic--the lunatic being of course George Gilder.
But i do not think he is an innocent lunatic as i have received in the mail several times his promotional material to subscribe to his NewsLetter, and it is a blatant pack of lies that avoids all mention of his actual performance-- he is nothing but a huckster to the blind deaf and dumb that get hooked by his "futurist" ravings.
