OC192 does the same rate as this technology and it's barely off the ground due to distance limitation due to dispersion.

Apples and oranges. OCxx fiber is serial on-off modulated data. Cable (HFC) is analog, frequency multiplexed.

The most common digital cable modulation (64 QAM) delivers 27mb/s in a 6Mhz channel. Some use 256 QAM, for 38mb/s in a 6Mhz channel. Two-way upgraded cable systems are typically 750Mhz or 860Mhz (the first 54Mhz being allocated for upstream, the rest downstream).
