Without doubt this has been the best Irish team I have seen.

I wonder how Given would have fared during the penalties... except the Spaniards threw away a couple of them... Spain was saved by a couple of saints... San Casillas and San crossbar. -ggg

Who was it who said in German..."I am a Berliner".....I want to say "I am an Irishman" after today's performance.

Wow, what drama! Folks, if you did not become an Ireland fan after today you deserve to get a season ticket pass to a baseball team<g>. What else can you say about these Irish??? This is what soccer and World Cup is all about, you give 110% EVERY minute and leave it on the field! Spain was pathetic! All they did was replay the movie "let's hold our early goal lead" and we all know the ending in these movies...this time they got lucky to get the game to PKs. Spain showed how much they deserve the big time "chokers" and totally gutless status, they were practically walking out there and you could see how evident the stress got to them, making their legs 50 pounds heavier. Instead of taking it to the Irish and finishing the match by scoring another goal, they were content to stay back and defend....I HATE THAT! I was cheering for the Irish baby! They epitomize how heart and work can often beat talent and they almost pulled it off. To me, PKs are always a crapshoot, either team could advance when we get to PKs. But I was surprised to see how poorly the Irish took the PKs and then how, in true gutless/choking fashion, the Spaniards almost refused to advance. Too bad the Irish did not score again in OT, the Spaniards were just ready to go home. I am sorry, this Spain team is not going further, they just don't have what it takes. Why did the coach take out Morientes and Raul? I think they both got injured, if not (if he took them out to rest them) he should be thrown to the bulls! I don't think R. Keane took the first PK, the way he took the next two PKs, man that was a big mistake. No question about the second PK after seeing the replay, Hierro looked like he wanted to take the Irish player to bed<g>.

I think whoever faces Spain next will put a nail in their coffin.......Heck, it could be S. Korea....and with Senegal closing in....and Japan...wow, we should be crowning a new champion IF Brazil falters.

>The egotistical little ManU p***k who walked away from his teammates has got to be kicking himself, he could have made a real difference today.

They should strip him of his citizenship and exile him for life!<g>
