Yes, heaven forbid we hold the industry accountable for its own hype!

Your statements over the last few weeks about Wi-LAN and OFDM should be Ch. One of The Hypester's Manual.

You've acquired the bad habits of your pristine hype-free pals at the Nokia thread--hype like hell, then act sanctimonious.

It's an ugly, hypocritical trait.

GL: "argument about 1X being 3G or not is pointless"
R: "Yes, heaven forbid we hold the industry accountable for its own hype!"

Again what is the point? The marketers always get ahead of the reality in their "optimism" :-) We all know in Japan and Korea 1X data speed and initial 3G content has been successful. In the US voice capacity gains and need for GPS is bringing in HS replacements. We will shortly see how content and higher data speeds will be regarded by the US users.

GL: "Evolution is a good thing."
R: "Not when everything is anticipated as, and priced for, a revolution!"

The "revolution" is the idea to replace GSM with WCDMA. Talk about price! CDMA2000 evolution is economical for current IS95 Service Providers. It would have been an evolution if Europe integrated the well proven CDMA air interface into their GSM networks. But they did not want to give the technological lead yet to another American company as in Intel and MS. They also wanted to protect their GSM sales. How can you blame the consequences of that decision on CDMA hypsters? <g>
