Re: "Isn't the greatest American right of all the right to stand up on a soapbox and say most any stupid thing you want to?"

And you said: "No. Its not. None of the rights we enjoy are completely unfettered."

>>> No shit....

"...And those rights must be exercised responsibly, ESPECIALLY in a time when our country is at war and our servicemen and women are exposed to the enemy. No one may yell "fire" in a crowded theater. The law does not protect libel or slander... That's the whole point.

>>> Yep. No yelling "fire", and I can swing my fist only up to the point where it is likely to collide with your nose. But the right to "say most any stupid thing you want to" should include pretty much anything else, right?...

>>> But, please don't tell me that you are saying we don't have the right to political speech at all. Please don't say you are defending a turd who believes any one (even high elected government officials) can be striped of their citizenship merely because they say something he disagrees with.

You are way off base here. Free speech cannot not be stifled for politics. that is what happened in Ohio and anyone who truly believes the principles this country is built upon should be angry and ashamed. Students are not the military or agents who may have sensitive info about a war. This past weekend W and his henchmen showed their true colors.
