wanna, I agree that every cent Intel spent on the process and conversion to 12" wafers was money well spent. But I think building new fabs was a total waste of money.

The money was very well spent, IMO. The fact that no one would like to admit that on this thread is pretty typical of the mind set that people share here.

I think I acknowledged that NW was a good CPU, and I don't recall saying much (if anything) negative about it. The fact that Intel was on time with .13u is a question of execution (which is where Intel has done very well lately), but it is not CapEx, it is farily independent of CapEx. These costs are under R&D.

CapEx is about buying equipment, building new fabs, upgrading old ones, increasing capacity. Intel spent more than normal spending recently, added capacity a lot of capacity.

I was assuming that the increase in CapEx is what you were talking about, but it turns out you are really talking about execution, so now I have no idea what your point was relating to CapEx.
