We discussed the Hersh New Yorker article in rather great detail when it was published, FL.

I guess I have forgotten, John. I'm surprised it was not posted on the thread but oh well...

From Atlantic Monthly, this month.

The FBI and Martin Luther King
New documents explain the notorious wiretaps
by David J. Garrow

And Garrow does explain why Bobby Kennedy ordered the wiretaps. Seems MLK's one close white friend was the "Money Man" for the American Communist Party. The taps went from '62 until just before MLK's death in '68. By this time the CP was almost a department of the FBI, they had it that infiltrated. It does not justify it, just explains why it happened.

You can't get it on the Web. I read it tonight at Borders, after reading chapter one of "American Ground: Unbuilding the World Trade Center" the new three part series in Atlantic Monthly, which is also not available on the web.
