It has nothing to do with the comment that "allegiance is based on group identity", but it is still a pretty question and answer! What is this then? <<Sharing? I would think they would SELL them to whoever wanted to buy them, Canadian or not. No?">> <That is my point. Their first allegiance (legally and morally) is to the Canadian Family...> If not trade and commerce, what are you speaking of? Hugs? Sure, keep them within Canada. We moneygrubbers down are only interested in what you sell at what price and what you buy from us at what price. The CLEAR implications of your statement is that Canadian business owe their primary commercial allegiances to other Canadians.Major? We are your largest trading partner. I misstated that. By "major" I meant largest. We have made you dependent upon both our material and our human resources! Don't get too eager to exploit that. That can and will be fixed if you do.How about tomorrow at the abandoned gravel pits?! Just let Rumsfeild know. Which cities can you do without? :-)In many instances, the difference between a particular group of "Canadians" and a particular group of "Americans" is less remarkable than many of the interstate or intercounty differences. It has been commented many times that the US northern tier of states more resemble the Canadian provinces above them than they do the US states at the southern boundary. Nor are these differences "natural" differences, but are based on the tendency of humans to identify with whatever groups have resources which can be bartered to the enhancement of particular values. We find in many cases that people are capable of being useful to one another within a shared ethic. I would call that content-free.This is not to disparage the fact that Canadians generally govern with a larger vision than do yourselves Let's say that's a matter of opinion.WE have the trade surplus! YOU have the trade deficit! And quite frankly--this is frightening to many non Americans. And WE have had it for a long time! People are so in love with greenbacks that they insist on giving us stuff of real value for that dyed paper! Some of the world have come to believe that American morality is often dictated by expediency... NOT that such a thing could EVER have been said of the British Empire, of course.... Being a great power brings many problems with it. Things are so simple any more. The simple morality of childhood no longer fits. I love Canada, AND the United States, AND Mother England. She is still your MOTHER, too--you ingrate...<gg> We love Mother England too. We're just not going to let her d&&ned socialists run us! :-) SOMEBODY's gotta be in good shape to rescue her butt the next time she puts it in a hopeless sling! And I have long held that the US is d**ned lucky to have a peaceful, stable democracy with an educated and industrious populace for a neighbor. We could have had a large version of North Korea. Or Iran. Or the Russians could have ended up with that real estate.
