Excuse me for jumping in, but your description of this young man mirrors so many students that I have worked with. They are my favorite students because they have abilities that often do not show up in standardize testing and social skills that are often not appreciated by their peers and thus seek out adults for interaction.

I just saw Gold's message to you and his thought regarding Asperger's syndrome is an excellent one. These are people who just don't fit into our box but can have incredible abilities and can find their success in those areas that appeal to them.

Our schools often look for students to be "normal" without the realization that differently-able students can be smarter and more successful than the average student...and often, are very happy in their own pursuits.

They are my favorites!
