Amy and all, as a matter of concept, I'd prefer profit-sharing plans over stock options. At least profits are more directly related to employee performance, while stock options are more indirectly related.

The way I see it, employee performance affects profits, and profits in turn affects shareholder sentiment, which then in turn affects the stock price. I don't know of any shareholder that cares directly about employee performance except in the context of profit-making. That's why I think a better vehicle of rewarding employees is profit-sharing, rather than stock options.

Like I said, this is all a matter of concept, and I don't hold this concept just because my options are worth a lot less these days. 8-(
