Doug, the rights of the thread founder must be respected, there's the major rub to what you're asking of John ... i sure wouldn't like somebody to come along and alter one of my threads just because i was away for a decade or so, lol .... start a new thread on it maybe, then spam it on russ', on 4au's, and on the winter thread ... make up a brief on it, a case for the thing ... and not with that poetic side of your brain either -g- ... something with the fundamental 3 Ps - People Property and Phinancing ... as i understand Samex is a favourite of the Gata crowd, and i am generally leery of that class of hype [ecu.me comes to mind] [now ecu.v, Bill Murphy used to pump that one unmercifully] [just before it tanked] .... but who knows, maybe they're on to a good one here, it is said they like X-Cal which is quality, if somewhat frothy at the moment considering the state of the kitty ... i absolutely do not understand why they don't get onto the ngt/aas story, though, fwiw ... but anyway do that, start your own thread, if the thing acquires substance and value you'll be a hero

DougAK & MrMark -

Thanks for continuing to provide feedback on SI on this thread. Here's what I can tell you:

* SI Search - We're looking at a few options to speed this up. Search is a relatively expensive feature (hardware) for SI, and we're thinking of moving to a different database and/or optimizing it. I hope we're 1-2 weeks away from a solution.

* Thread Maintenance - The risk with switching ownership is having threads co-opted and moderated by individuals with a strong opinion in one way or another and permanently changing the composition of the thread. It would be difficult to monitor this from an administration perspective.

We're considering the following: If a thread needs updating and the thread owner hasn't posted on SI for a certain amount of time, it can be taken over (at a member's request) by an SI Admin, who will update the original post & inform the users. Of course, this could cause a great deal of work for us, so it might not be realistic.

Anyway, interested in your thoughts as we continue to consider...

John
