people who home-school their kids through grade 12 so they won't be corrupted to "worldly influences" ... or try to prevent needy women from receiving birth-control pills ... or openly call for America to move from a democracy to a theocracy ...
corporate crooks and their Republican cronies do their thing ... or when right-wing extremists take over local health boards

Each of the three examples you cited is yet another example of attempts to draw universals from isolated incidents.

I'd say you did the same thing. Let's face it, here on this board, there is a LOT of broadbrushing that if we were face to face we would not even attempt, That why this board for me is more entertainment than anything else.

What I object to are gas-guzzling SUVs proliferating during a time when we should become less-dependent on Saudi oil for patriotic reasons. (Do you have a problem with that line of reasoning?)

I now buy all my gas from Shell because it is my understanding they use don't use Saudi oil or at least use the least. I'd include ARCO as well but their gas is crap.

If, as a small businessman, you pay taxes at X rate, why should Big Business pay at a rate of X minus 10 percentage points ... or even pay no taxes at all, a la Enron?

All C-corps live under the same tax codes. What are you talking about? My corp has no paid Federal income tax for years because we pay it out in salaries. Why? Because if I defer income till AFTER tax I'm taxed twice. Is that fair? What you don't seem to get Flap is that everytime you go screaming about some inequity that BIG BAD BIG BUSINESS is exploiting and you champion some manner of redress, there are 100's of small companies like me that get shafted. Try as you may to position yourself as such, you are no champion of small business.

I continue to be amazed that small business owners don't scream and holler because of the tax disparity between small businesses and Big Business

Again, what disparities are you talking about?

The biggest problems faced by small business is the social engeneering engaged in by Democrats and Leftist Utopiacrats who try to legislate conduct and morality in the workplace and create a Rube Goldberg. BWDIK, I'm just a small businessman and most of my associates are as well. What do we know?

Bottomline for me, it is interesting to watch the extremes collide in the headlines but it is in or near the middle where we end up. That is the beauty of our system as constructed by our forefathers. I generally have faith in the good will and nature of what I call "the collective American conscience" to get it right most of the time and serve as ballst against extremist, both right and left.

Now, I've got to go paint the front door or I'll get no dinner.
