I have a son with that kind of eating disorder. I don't think it has anything to do with the death sentence. And everything to do with having a disability, being lonely, and having nothing that gives you pleasure like food does. I had a child in class that looked exactly like the young boy in the movie, he had sickle cell, and also had a tendency to sneak food. He often ate what was left over from the other kids lunches. He couldn't run and play- because he was very heavy and could not walk properly due to a problem with his hip joints, he was often excluded, so he ate.
