Nadine, I read Bush's statement as a way to get us off the hook with the PLO. Every nation actually committed to peace will stop the flow of money, equipment and recruits to terrorist groups seeking the destruction of Israel, including Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah, is stronger than I remember seeing before.

It will all be in the execution over the next few months.

The United States, along with the European Union and Arab states, will work with Palestinian leaders to create a new constitutional framework and a working democracy for the Palestinian people.

We'll see how much support for democratization is forthcoming from the non-democratic (read "all'") Arab states in the Middle East.

This goal also flies directly in the face of those railing against the products of the Enlightenment. To the Islamists, a democratic outcome would be a disaster. And, where does this leave the Western radical left -- will they oppose a western democratic solution?
