Just what does prevent your panels from imposing death for minor crime?

Just what prevents you from reading what I write or retaining what you read?

The panel negotiates the reparations.

The matter of the disposition of the criminal is determined by the professionals in the justice system with input from various sources. Details to be determined. There would be regulations. And citizen oversight. And open hearings. All the usual stuff. Not a bunch of neighbors signaling thumbs up or down.

Now, the model I presented was just a sketch. I just made up the panel based on maybe three minutes of thorough analysis. If a panel notion can be improved on, fine. The basic concept of the model is that there are two parts, reparations and protection of society--no retribution. The details are just that--details. They can be tinkered with.

Laz,

I have not read the whole discussion so if I missed the points you have made, too bad. <g>

Just wondering a couple of things:

1. Would you take your children (when they are young) to an execution?

2. Do you think that torturing prisoners who have been convicted of serious crimes is acceptable?
