Cockup or conspiracy?

The real difference between us - i feel - depends upon whether you believe that individuals can really control things. I do not. Most conspiracies if they occur are implicit rather than explicit - no-one is in charge.

Whether GW is in charge, or St Peter himself is not really going to make a difference on the large scale. Yes there will be differences, but they will be minor (though maybe they will affect our individual lifestyles).
No matter what, GW inherited a post-bubble economy and an un-fettered and single superpower. (I see the resemblance to Nero now).

No matter who is in charge things are only going to go one way. You takes your choice quick, slow, or very slow (Japan style). The public will never allow you to sort it out quickly - that is just the way it is.

People (Da Mob) will never collectively accept responsibility for their actions - that is just human nature. Politicians are there to play on this and to take them for every penny along the way. It is a question of individual morality as to whether you join in or not.

Whatever, raise a glass to that robust multivariate system we call life - may its (net) negative feedback paths continually increase. (as a control engineer might say!).

Things will get better - I just cant give you a date!

I thought the bubble was inflated during the late 90s. Wasn't there somebody else in the oval office during that period?
