Er..is it just possible that our President is doing what he things is right without weighing the effect it will have on his re-election?

I know Lyndon Johnson was President long before you entered this country, but he did dreadfully unpopular things because he thought they were "right"--such as the Civil Rights Act (good) and the Vietnam War expansion (very very bad).

There are people who act on principle.

If Arafat looses, he gains. If Arafat wins, >>>>

Arafat is finished..He is non-event, win or lose..Surely he has no effect whatsoever on Bush or anyone anymore...He is the only one that either does not know this yet or has hard time to come to grips with reality...He has nothing to offer...He is just a symbol (of failure to the World, and glory not to be to his impoverished people)....Just like Lenin was in Soviet Union, symbols can't feed real people

Bush has put the ball squarely in the Palestinian's court. He said to them, buck up and fly straight and we'll support your state; continue to support terrorism and we'll let Sharon do what he pleases. Nobody is going to talk to Arafat anymore.

If the Palestinians continue to blow up babies few Americans will weep for them. The clamor of international complaints, which was all aimed at America anyhow, will also die down. In fact, Israeli tanks are rolling all over the West Bank right now (except for Jericho). Where is the storm of international condemnation that greeted a similar action in April? Nowhere, that's where. All quiet.

It's up to the Palestinians to make the next move.
