>>Allen in the 60's I spoke on many a college campus and many other venues. I was a liberal. I was never shouted down nor denied the right to speak by the conservatives. I did get a few Jesus loves you and your damned but that was all. I was never threatened nor did I ever feel intimidated.

That is not the case today for conservatives. They are shouted down on campus and threatened with violence. Their papers are stolen and in general the left appears threatened by ideas and incapable of tolerating an opposite opinion. <<

Ron -

I agree with you. The fascistic enforcement of "political correctness" on many college campuses is outrageous and certainly counterproductive to education.

By the way, when you spoke on those campuses in the 60's and didn't get shouted down, it was probably because you were a liberal. Then, as now, liberals predominated on most colleg campi. If you had been a conservative hawk, you might have gotten a different reception.

On the other hand, as a young, long-haired war protester, I experienced a lot of viciousness from conservatives in the late 60s, up to and including having a partially-full beer can thrown out of a moving pickup truck and hitting me in the forehead at approximately 40 mph. So I don't think this kind of thing is anything new.

The tone of most political debate has certainly sunk to all-time lows in the last several years, though. No denying that. What I can't agree with is the idea that the liberals are solely responsible for that.
