I am all for private ownership, cars etc, just the costs of running these items should be fairly burdened by the owners. Then businesses could look at making other forms of transport more efficient and acceptable. It's a no brainer.

Hi speed train networks for both freight and people is a great idea.

The UK is fast becoming just one big traffic jam. People are not "more free"...they are enslaved to the car. Endless hours commuting and fuming in delayed traffic. The cost of owning a car is astronomical in comparison to wages. Lots of people seem to be able to afford more fancy cars then me though, even though my paltry wages put me in the top 2% of wage earners in this country. Mind you that's just going by the tax records if you get my drift.

There is no way I would live in Reading and commute to West End London for example. Not even if I was given a free new Lamborghini each year. I don't know how people manage to put up with that kind of crapola every day.

The last time I looked at a USA rail road it looked to me to be in a high state of disrepair. i.e needing replacement.

With the economy crashing, in a few years there will be plenty of people sitting around twiddling there thumbs looking for something to do. To get things moving some action will be needed by the Federal government. It should be done in co operation with private business interests imho. At the end of the day "enlightened management" is a "must have" for any country to progress. Therefore shareholders need to be able to can unenlighted managers at the press of a button.

Ten to twenty years from now the USA could be a real nice place to live for the great majority of the population. The Republicans could make this happen just as well as any other party in office.

Wellcome to take on anyone who thinks my economic politics ain't just right here..

At the end of the day, owning and driving a car or moterbike could be the pleasure it's supposed to be...a pastime rather then enslavement.
