and, finally, the voucher decision by the Supremes yesterday must be driving atheists nuts

I doubt it. Have you heard an uproar?

Threat? What threat?

Because someone is challenging your beliefs? That's part of that same First Amendment. The free speech part.
That's a rather important part of the foundation of the United States. More important than two words in the Pledge.

Atheists have been in this country as long as Christians. Tom Paine was an atheist. And freedom from religion shoved down the throat by the gov't is why a lot of people came to this country. It's a good part of what it's about.

All the politicians are making political hay of this. All of them are wrapping themselves in the pledge. Including liberal Democrats. IncludinfgTom Daschle. You think only Christian Rightists will benefit?

Legally, there's a good argument the decision was right. Politically, it was stupid.
And the guy who brought it was an idiot.

I think the ruling stirred the majority of the country from sleepy indifference to atheists and caused them to feel a teensy bit LESS tolerant.
I think they'd better keep it TEENSY.

the voucher decision by the Supremes yesterday must be driving atheists nuts - not to mention the public education establishment.
Don't see why.
I've been advocating vouchers for along time. The public school system needs all the competition it can get.

But you do understand that those vouchers could also be used for wiccan schools to turn out witches, rights? And for atheist schools?

Remember the uproar when the obvious about the faith-based initiatives occurred to many Christians- -that now their tax dollars would be used to fund New Age and witchcraft programs?

Well, stand by.
