You're in a no win position. I've lost some friends
giving the right advice, it sucks when your arguments fall on deaf ears. Best to just move on and don't bring it up anymore.

Ive been there. I have been ignored by my dad for 10 years. Begged him to by Qcom in 1997 at split adjusted 6 and Gold Hgmcy at 4-5 last year. Some people just think they are so smart they dont listen. meanwhille he loves buying those 1-5 dollar stocks.

Horgad (and patron),
Just been through similar experiences, the disbelief is unbelievable, ggg.

Last week was playing with one guy at work. I used to try and help folks, but after receiving the following treatment too often, I guess I've turned into a tease. Anyway, he watches quotes on a PC above his terminal. I pretty well called the mkt moves for him all day st, an hour or two ahead of the moves.

He just refused to believe I had any kind of handle on the market despite what was a really hot performance. Just mostly "paper trading" calls, I seldom trade at work, though I did have a couple of nice trades that day previously put on, I was mostly calling sectors he was interested in and I was not. By end of day he was so mad he made a very public reference to a fairly substantial stock loss I had five years ago (15% of my PF at time). Funny how my co workers love to fall back on that one! Also a good reason not to throw too many pearls out there for common consumption, most will just turn and rend you...

I just had to laugh and say the price of a good education is not cheap!!

No matter what I do, I will never have any credibility with coworkers since I am not on TV or in the magazines/newspapers, so obviously I don't know Jack Schitt! They should be excused I guess, for all they know is their 401k's and they are obviously in deep pain with those limited selections and performance over the last few years. Yet all during that time their dot bombs exploded, I had tried to help with advice. Not something I do anymore.

But I do have the enjoyment of fading their sentiment and remembering "Success is the best Revenge", since they are not friends or family.

Guess I'm more cynical now, but also more successful

vbg

Edit, just noted the other replies, I see I'm in good company here. With friends and family the thread is right, just best to move on, be quiet and successful.

< In his eyes, I will always be just an amateur disagreeing with what the pros are saying on CNBC and the ilk. >

Same with my mom... I've worked from NYC to Frankfurt, I-Banks to Specialist firms to hedge funds to own shop.... but here broker from Bank Montreal somehow knows more than I... maybe because her services [cash incinerated] is so much more expenive... get what you pay for??

Actually, over the years I've realized it's symptomatic of our relationship in life.... :( for that but :) that I've figured it out!
