1x subscribers totaled 10 million in Korea and Japan at the end of May.

3gtoday.com

Japan and Korea are likely to add around 1.4 million new 1x subscribers during the month of June. These two countries alone account for all of Hambrecht's estimate.

If you look over on the left side at your link, it says that there were 4,177,000 1x handsets sold LAST YEAR in Korea. So you would have to subtract that out of the 10 million, no?

Friedland's (of W.R. Hambrecht & Co.) downgrade comes as South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co., a major manufacturer of CDMA phones, said it might double its investment in handset production in 2002, depending on market conditions. (This according to Microsoft Investor.)

The point being, why would Samsung say this unless they thought there was a good possibility of this doubling taking place in 2002?

I'm looking at those 1x subscriber numbers again. Hambrecht is clearer in their table, i.e., cumulative 1x MSM shipments are 30 million and 1x handset unit sales are 11.3 million (as of the end of June, as you noted).

I see the 10 million for Korea and Japan to the end of May.

You noted that....

Japan and Korea are likely to add around 1.4 million new 1x subscribers during the month of June.

Here #reply-17654988 and here #reply-17689069 I'm only seeing a total of 625,000 for Korea + Japan for the month of June.

I've looked around but I can't find Sprint or Verizon 1x sales numbers. Do you have any links to those?

It won't amount to much, but I know that Bell Canada and Telus up here have been selling 1x phones for a while.
